STOP THE BLEED – Save A Life – Help us help our community

Help us save lives through our STOP THE BLEED community fundraising campaign.

A person can bleed to death in less than 3 minutes.

There is no greater feeling of helplessness than to watch someone’s life pass before your eyes, as you standby helpless without a simple $30 piece of equipment that could save their life and knowing how to use it.

Even in communities well served by EMS services, a person can bleed to death in less than 3 minutes.  It is our goal and that of STOPTHEBLEED.org to prevent needless deaths.

STOP THE BLEED training and the bleeding control tourniquet kits can be used to control severe blood loss in everyday emergencies.  Emergencies such as:

  • Automobile accidents
  • Motorcycle accidents
  • Boating accidents
  • Power equipment accidents
  • Animal attacks
  • Shooting incidents

In-Gauge of Polk County, a non-profit organization in Winter Haven, Florida is raising funds to purchase STOP THE BLEED training kits and emergency bleeding control tourniquet kits to be distributed in public venues throughout Polk County, Florida.

Our immediate goal is to purchase 2 STOP THE BLEEDtraining kits, at a cost of $1,200 each and 15 emergency bleeding control tourniquet kits, at a cost of $200 each.

The training kits will be used for training the general public in free STOP THE BLEED training classes.

The tourniquet kits will be distributed at public venues, selected schools and other non-profit organizations.

In-Gauge of Polk County, a licensed affiliate of STOPTHEBLEED.org is raising money to purchase emergency use, blood loss control, tourniquet kits. The kits will be distributed at selected public locations throughout Polk County, for use by the public, in the event of a blood loss emergency.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – In the wake of another rash of school shootings, and in the middle of National “Stop the Bleed Month,” advocates are spreading the word about blood loss.

In-Gauge and WFLA News 8 – STOP THE BLEED

“A person can bleed to death in less than two minutes,” said Dr. Andrew Gaugler, a trauma surgeon at Lakeland Regional Health.

He says, with a little bit of awareness and education, people may not have to die that way.

“Once the ‘Stop The Bleed’ course came out, that’s how we decided that we could get the community and the everyday citizen involved to help save lives,” said Dr. Gaugler.

The “Stop The Bleed” initiative came to be in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook tragedy, as part of a collaborative effort led by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

“Tourniquets and bleeding kits should be pretty much standard anywhere you go in a public place,” said Dr. Gaugler.

“We have gloves, we have tourniquets, we have scissors, we have roll gauze,” said Robert Dummett.

Dummett is chief training officer and executive director at In-Gauge of Polk County, a non-profit organization focused on firearms safety. Dummett, and the organization, also host “Stop the Bleed” training courses.

He says the goal is to get the “Stop the Bleed” kits everywhere there is an automated external defibrillator (AED) machine.

“The goal is to have these kits mounted next to them, readily available, for anybody to use anytime there’s blood loss, just like a person would pull a fire extinguisher off the wall,” said Dummett.

This week, he donated a kit to the Saddle Creek Gun Range in Polk County. The steps to save life and limb, he says, are clear cut.

“Wound packing is number one – wound packing and applying direct pressure to the wound and, if that’s not sufficient to stop the blood loss, then it’s application and tourniquet.”

You can order a mounted kit or a portable one online. You can also go online to find a “Stop the Bleed” course near you.

Bartow, Fla. (May 16, 2022) — If an unfortunate accident happens at the Saddle Creek Gun Range, Polk County’s Parks and Recreation staff will be ready thanks to the donation of a trauma kit from In-Gauge of Polk County.

In a small ceremony Monday, Polk County Commissioners Bill Braswell and Rick Wilson accepted the donation from the local group. The kit includes bandages and supplies to treat gunshot wounds until more advanced medical help arrives.

“I’d like to think in the back of my mind it’s never going to be used but it’s a great thing to have if you do need it,” Braswell said during the ceremony.

The donation from In-Gauge is in recognition of National Stop-the-Bleed Month. National Stop-the-Bleed Month aims to educate the public on the basic skills needed to control bleeding from accidents to save lives.

Robert Dummett, instructor with In-Gauge, says, “An individual can bleed to death in less than three minutes.” Dummett says anybody can use the techniques and supplies in this trauma kit to help stop bleeding and possibly save someone’s life.
